FOREIGN WORKERS_SOCSO COVERAGE
Title: Foreign Workers Are Covered under First Category under SOCSO Act 1969.
Introduction:
In order to provide comprehensive protection for foreign employees, the extended schemes of SOCSO now covers foreign workers against accidents or occupational diseases arising out of and in the course of their employment.
This means that foreign employees must also bear the contribution. The calculation of the contribution is based on the first table (First Category of Contribution Rate).
Therefore, when the employer pays the contribution of the month, it must submit together with the contribution share of the foreign workers.
With that said, here are 7 reasons why they are covered! 👊
1. Medical Benefits
In the event of employment injuries or occupational diseases, employees are eligible for complimentary medical treatment. This treatment is provided at PERKESO-approved panel clinics or government hospitals/clinics until complete recovery is achieved.
Regarding medical expenses incurred at non-panel clinics, employers or employees may submit a reimbursement claim to PERKESO. The approval and amount of reimbursement are contingent upon conditions established by PERKESO or in accordance with the Fees Act 1951.
2. Temporary Disablement Benefit
This benefit is designed to support employees who are temporarily unable to work due to a work-related injury or occupational disease. To qualify, the employee must be on medical leave certified by a doctor for a minimum of 4 days, including the day of the accident.
Importantly, the benefit is not paid for any days during this period when the employee returns to work and earns wages. The daily rate of the Temporary Disablement Benefit is calculated as 80% of the employee's average assumed daily wage.
3. Permanent Disablement Benefit
Recipients of Temporary Disability Benefits are eligible to request Permanent Disability Benefits after payment of Temporary Disability Benefits has been issued. The approval of this benefit application will be confirmed by the Board of Doctors or the Board of Appeal Doctors to assess the eligibility of the Insured Person for Permanent Disability Benefits.
The daily rate of Permanent Disability Benefit is 90% of the estimated average daily wage for employees, with a minimum rate of RM30.00 per day and a maximum of RM148.50 per day. The period for making a claim is within 12 months from the date of the last temporary disability.
4. Constant Attendance Allowance
Employees who have a serious permanent disability and need constant assistance from others, are eligible to receive this allowance based on the recommendation of the Medical Board, the Special Medical Board, or the Appellate Medical Board. The amount of the Allowance is set at RM500 per month.
5. Physical Rehabilitation Facilities
Insured also eligible to physical rehabilitation facilities. Those activities are:
Physiotherapy
Occupational therapy
Reconstructive surgery
Supply of prosthetics, orthotics and other tools
Orthopedic supplies such as wheelchairs, canes, hearing aids, glasses, special shoes and others
6. Funeral Benefit
A total of RM 3000 will be paid to the eligible person. This benefit will be paid if an employee dies as a result of a work accident or while receiving periodic Permanent Disability Benefits.
The total payment will be paid either the actual amount of expenses or RM3,000 whichever is lower based on the receipt submitted.
7. Dependent's Benefit
Dependents are eligible to receive this benefit if the employee involved dies as a result of an occupational accident. The daily rate is 90% of the employee's assumed average daily wage, with a minimum rate of RM30.00 and a maximum of RM148.50 per day.
